DuoVivo

Biography

In 2002, the pianists Chris Marinos and Nikos Adraskelas decided to dedicate themselves to a piano duo, today under the name Duo Vivo, while still studying at the Ars Nova Conservatoire in Athens, Greece. Since their first collaboration they had soon been invited to give several concerts across Greece. Their debut took place in 2006 at the 22nd Summer Festival at Mount Pelion in Central Greece, where they have been performing each summer since by giving recitals and collaborating with other artists. Since then they have appeared as a duo in recitals as well as with orchestras and ensembles in Greece, Austria, Holland and the UK. Their repertoire ranges from the Classical Era to the 21st century, and the two have a particular interest in, and love for contemporary music, aiming in parallel in promoting neglected and little known works, as well as works by Greek and young composers. Among their most beloved activities are collaborating with other artists (orchestras, choirs and actors), arranging works for four hands and two pianos, and giving lecture-recitals where they aim in presenting various works through praxis and theory. They also particularly enjoy working with students and performing educational programs at schools, especially with those who might not normally have the opportunity to encounter such music.

Very significant to their development has been their association with the pianist, conductor, teacher and philosopher of music, Prof. George Hadjinikos, under whose teaching they have been guided since 2002. Their relationship is an expanded research in music as a whole through Prof. Hadjinikos's workshops 'Essence and Origins of Musical Interpretation'.

Nikos Adraskelas was born in Athens, Greece and began his music education in 1994 at the Ars Nova Conservatoire where he graduated from Christina Tertipi's piano class in 2004 with a Piano Diploma (Excellence and First Prize). He is held responsible of Prof. Hadjinikos's private archive since 2004.

Chris Marinos was also born in Athens. In 1988 he moved to New York where his first piano lessons took place at the Frank Toscano Music School. After returning to Greece, he continued his studies at the Ars Nova Conservatoire in 1999 (piano with Christina Tertipi and theory with Alexandros Faris). In 2002 he was appointed administrator of the private Archive of the Greek composer Jani Christou, which led him to various studies regarding his life and work. He has edited the second edition of the Greek translation of the book 'Jani Christou - The Works and Temperament of a Greek Composer' by Anna Lucciano. Since 2005 he had been a contributor to the Greek music website Classical Music for one year, and since 2007 is a consultant at the web-radio station RadioArt.

The beginning of 2010 saw a wonderful collaboration between Duo Vivo and twin tenors and pianists Duo Fina. The two Duos, under the name due e due, have already performed in Greece with much success and are currently planning future appearances abroad. Their repertoire ranges from well-known classical arias and Italian canzonettas to French, Spanish, North and South American, English, Greek, Asian and from other countries famous songs from the 20th century, songs from musicals and films and much more.

Duo Vivo hold the Recital Certificate of Pianoforte Performance of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama since 2001 with distinction, as well as degrees in Tonic Harmony (with Yannis Pantazatos) and Baroque and Renaissance Counterpoint (with Panayotis Adam) since 2003 and 2008 respectively. They have taken violoncello lessons by Rafael Kori and conducting lessons by Alexandros Charkiolakis, and have attended classes on Aesthtics of Art by Constantine P. Carambelas-Sgourdas, Contemporary Music by Giorgos Minas, master-classes and seminars by Kurt Masur (Orchestral Conducting), Zouzou Nikoloudi (Ancient Greek Drama), George Hadjinikos (Essence and Origins of Musical Interpretation), Evgeny Kolmanovich (Piano), Evangelos Sarafianos (Piano) and Dimitris Toufexis (Piano). They have accompanied pupils of the renowned tenor's Takis Finas singing class at the Ars Nova Conservatoire and have been members of the Ars Nova Vocal Ensemble. Since 2003 they had been consultants, and from 2009 are members, of the board of directors of the Non Profit Cultural Foundation 'G. Angelinis - Pia Hadjinikos' which organizes every summer since 1984 educational programs including seminars, master-classes and cultural events around all forms of Art with music always being the main subject, at the village Horto in Mount Pelion in Greece.
